Decision: I'll Wear Red, White, and Blue

Happy Fourth of July from the Richardson Homestead. Here is Mom, in front of the Smoke Tree. She is in awe at how full it is, just like all the other bushes around the door yard. We have had a nice day and MISS YOU ALL!!!!!

Gram looks fantastic! Did you BBQ?

No, we cooked breakfast for Aaron and Ethan, ate bologna sandwiches when they stopped back by before they went to the Butler Raceway, and had leftovers for dinner. I am always tired the first day of the 'weekend', and so was Grandma from teaching basket classes in the morning, so it turned out to be a much appreciated 'lazy day' with little or no cooking!

"Door yard." This would be another saying or phrase that you might have to explain. The last time I heard it used was in a Walt Whitman poem. But this is not bad company, in my opinion.

What is a "Door Yard” I’m just wondering since I don’t think that is a real term? Marlys your mind has been mixing up objects again I think its time for shock therapy!

WooHoo my fell family memeber thinks the same, and all the way from CO.. Hummm that sure tells ya something!.

Nothing gets by you two, does it. Door-yard or dooryard is what my Grandma always called it. Do you think she got that distinction from Walt (Whitman) himself or grew up with it (she was born in 1891).
Wiktionary, the free dictionary list dooryard as: English Noun
Plural dooryards
1. the yard near the front or back door of a house

That about says it! If the tree were to either side of the house, it would be in the side yard! (Folds arms, shrugs, and smiles smuggly!....No, just kidding....(giggles)!!!!!)

Erica, are you referring to the sayings and words I posted June 24, 2008?

Jordan, see...it is a real word! Why do you doubt me...LOL!

Daniel and Molly: Do you recgonize the 'Smoke Tree'. It is where you stood to have your pictures taken, in your 'caps', before Molly's graduation.

Yes I was referring to the June 24th post. I've come across several strange colloquial sayings lately. For instance did you know that in the South you shoot the mistletoe out of the Christmas tree, or something strange like that. I had no idea, did you?
